Coal Field: Rollback Demanded By Arunachal Anti-Corruption Sena –Anna Samarthak (AACS-AS)

ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Anti-Corruption Sena –Anna Samarthak (AACS-AS) in a letter to Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday have expressed reservations on the decision of the State Government to resume the Namchik-Namphuk coal field in Changlang district and demanded the roll-back of the decision.

The organization said that the coal mining field is a security threat to the nation as well as to the State. “No doubt that the resumption of coal mining would bring an increase in the State revenue, but these increase cannot and should not be equated with that of the potential security threat that the whole region would be affected with,” the union said.

It alleged that the Arunachal Pradesh Mineral Development and Trading Corporation Ltd (APMD&TCL) is one of the main reason behind the financial windfall of the ultras.

Earlier, the coal fields which were allotted to the APMD&TCL during the year 2003 by the Coal Ministry, had to be suspended in the year 2012 due to the intervention of the Home Ministry, on the grounds that this coal fields are contributing the coffers of the underground groups like ULFA, NSCN and NDFB in the area.
