Coal mine worker's body found

MARGHERITA, Oct 29: An unidentified body was found at Tikak Colliery under Ledo outpost of Margherita subdivision on Saturday.

The deceased is believed to a daily wage labourer who worked in the illegal coal mines in Margherita region and there were many cut marks on the body. Some time back when a group of jourlists of Margherita went to do a news report on illegal mining, they were brutally attacked and assaulted by the coal mafia and now the body of a coal mine worker was found at Tikak Colliery.

Local residents of Tikak Colliery said that many suspected Bangladeshi tiols were engaged these in illegal coal mines. Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal had given strict instruction to the Tinsukia District Superintendent of Police and Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner months ago to take strict action against the coal mafia, but all in vain.

Conscious section of people said that after the BJP dovernment came to power, illegal coal mining had rampantly increased in the Margherita region where many senior Congress, BJP and AGP leaders of Margherita were engaged in illegal coal mining. They have appealed to Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal to take strict action against these illegal coal mines and coal mafia.
