Collection of rare books at Silchar book fair attracts book lovers

Silchar, Dec 18: Silchar book fair in its silver jubilee year has brought a collection of very rare and precious books. Stall No 9, Mariya Book Palace from Kolkata is featuring some of the rarest books in the field of Novel, Art, Photography, History, Geography, Literature, Encyclopaedia and Medicine. The bookstall of College Street at Kolkata has priceless books for book lovers. In Arts and paintings section, books of the paintings of Salvador Dali, Van Gogh, Michelangelo, Modigliani and others have exalted the status of the fair in general and the bookstall in particular. ‘Botanical Medicines’ is another book which is expected to garner a lot of interest among teachers and students of Botany. Mariya Book Palace is indeed a gift to the fair from Kolkata.

 Literature section has been adorned with the works of William Shakespeare, Thomas Hardy, Alexandre Dumas, George Berrd Shaw, Bertolt Brecht and other greatest figure from world literature. The collection of the dramas of Bertolt Brecht, who was a German poet, playwright, and theatre director of the 20th century, is a priceless collection of four books. Bertolt Brecht’s contributions to dramaturgy and theatrical production are unparalleled and unmatched till date. ‘The Annotated Shakespeare’, which is a volume of four large sized, thick books, is indeed one of the rarest collections which might invite book lovers to buy a set. Book lovers were seen entering the bookstall and going through almost each and every book. People will be enlightened if they visit this bookstall and buy books from it. The bookstall has books on some rare collections which comprise mysteries and histories of the world, geography, discoveries and inventions of the world.

 Books on Cricket and its history has been kept keeping in mind that the game is a religion in India. The book, ‘Cricket’ would be an interesting read since the book has a foreword written by Ian Botham, the legendary English cricketer. Collections of Thomas Hardy’s novels along with George Berrd Shaw’s novels have been piled in the bookstall so as to eble the lovers of literature to buy rare books. Old and rare books have been kept in the bookstall. There are more than 20 bookstalls in the fair and a large number of people have been seen in the fair. The book fair which is being held at Bipin Chandra Paul Sabasthal of this town will continue till December 25.
