College girl found dead; irate mob burns down houses in Dotma

KOKRAJHAR, August 4: Sensation prevails at New Gambaribil village under Kachugaon police station in Kokrajhar district after a young girl studying in second semester at UN Brahma College, Dotma was found dead on Thursday morning.

 The body of Ringkhangsri Brahma (25) of Surjakhata village under the same police station was found hanging in the house of one Dibakar Brahma (44) at New Gambaribil. The girl’s family suspected that she was murdered and then her body was hung from the ceiling fan.

Sources said the girl was studying in BA II semester at UN Brahma College, Dotma while Dibakar, a married man with two children, was allegedly having an extramarital affair with the girl. According to locals, the villagers caught both of them red-handed in an uncompromising position recently in the girl’s house in Surjakhata, following which the villagers held a meeting and sent the girl along with Dibakar the next day to get them married. But, the girl was found dead on Thursday morning. Sources also said that Dibakar and Ringkhangshri fell in love some years back as he claimed himself to be unmarried. He opposed her marriage proposal with others several times. Sources also said the girl realized quite late that Dibakar had a wife and children but despite opposition from his wife, Dibakar continued with the relationship.  An angry mob from the girl’s village Surjakhata set the house of Dibakar on fire on Thursday. Three houses were completely destroyed in the fire. The mob also damaged a power tiller, Scooty and other properties. Fire fighters later rushed to the spot and doused the flame. Police officials also reached the spot and sent the body for post mortem.

Kokrajhar Additiol SP Srejeet T said it was a family dispute over an extramarital affair. He said they had already started investigation. The situation is under control. Four persons have been arrested in this connection while Dibakar is also now under police custody.
