College student drowns

SILCHAR, Oct 13: A 19-year-old boy was drowned while bathing in left over of the river Barak in sector 10 of Laboc tea estate on Monday. Police said the youth identified as Bhaskar Tanti had gone to Laboc tea garden with 4-5 of his friends to have a dip in the beel when he was drowned in its deep waters. The diseased was a student of XII standard in Nehru College. Bhaskar Tanti was origilly from West Jalenga near Dwarbond who had been staying with his relative Bhupati Lal Mehra in Pailapool for the last 12 years for his studies. After a search operation, his body was recovered and sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. After necessary formalities, his body has been handed over to his family members for the last rites.
