College youth brutally assaulted by miscreants, two held

TANGLA, March 27: A 19-year old college youth was brutally assaulted by a group of drunken miscreants while he was on his way back home after attending a cultural programme near Pioneer Jr. College in Tangla on Sunday night. The victim Wajid Khan, is the son of a reputed businessman.

 According to eye-witnesses, the youth was assaulted by a group of miscreants allegedly led by Bitopon Basumatari and Pankaj Boro. They mercilessly boxed and kicked him and even dragged him down from his motorbike and stched his gold chain. Wajid somehow maged to flee the scene with the help of his friends. Sources informed that a group of people associated with an influential student organization is putting efforts to justify the brutal act and this is acting detrimental to the investigation.

Wajid’s parents said, “We are quite uware of the intention of the assaulters and we have lodged an FIR and police have already taken the two prime accused into custody.” The assaulters vide Tangla PS case no.456/18 were booked under IPC sections 341(wrongful restraint) and 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), apart from 379 (punishment for theft) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention.) Meanwhile, Udalguri Superintendent of Police Rajveer Singh and Bhergaon SDPO Barun Purkayastha have assured of impartial enquiry and punishment for the guilty.
