'Colleges, institutions should open placement cell'

From a Correspondent

JORHAT, Sept 19:  “I urge all technical, non-technical colleges to open placement cell as well as information centres throughout the State and region, which is only found in few technical colleges and institutions within the region. It is important for all the institution and colleges to open a placement cell or information centre through which students can get up-to-date information regarding training and placement,” said Jugen Borpujari, the Executive Director of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, Guwahati Refinery, while addressing an Industry Academic Meet (an awareness programme on Scheme for Apprenticeship Training and Employment at IOCL) which was organized by Guwahati Refinery for students from various colleges, engineering colleges and institutions of Jorhat and Upper Assam at the District Library Sri Sri Pitambor Dev Goswami auditorium here on Tuesday.

Borpujari said that it came to light following a study that applications from Northeast and Assam were not received for two consecutive years due to which no local youth from the region could be recruited for the vacant posts in IOC throughout the country. So after several discussion and sittings it was decided how to groom them as they did not know how to apply to get recruited into IOCL. “When our candidates do not apply for any post it will obviously go to someone else within the country,” he said.

On the other hand, the IOCL had taken up several initiatives similar to the Prime Minister’s Skill in India programme to skill youths which are part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility.
