Commendation ceremony for best Para Legal Volunteers held

MAWKYRWAT, Sept 20: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), South West Khasi Hills District, on Tuesday organised a commendation ceremony for Best Para Legal Volunteers at Multipurpose Hall, Laitlawsang in Mawkyrwat in which the district Additiol Deputy Commissioner, W. Biam graced the occasion as the Chief Guest in the presence of H.S. Diengdoh, ADC and Shelley Momin, Extra Additiol Commissioner (E.A.C) and other officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Biam said that the Para Legal Volunteers (PLV’s) are very important people because they act as intermediaries bridging the gap between the common people and the legal services institutions to remove impediments in access to justice.

He said that the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLVA) has many schemes to help the people in need and it is the duty of the Para Legal Volunteers to give awareness to the people about these schemes, helping them in filling up the forms and other works related to the Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls.

The ADC assured that many training will be organised for the Para Legal Volunteers so that they will know their roles and responsibilities and ensure that legal aid reach to all sections of people through the schemes.

Biam also revealed that the Best Para Legal Volunteers was selected according to their works and reports that they submitted. Therefore, he called upon the volunteers who were selected and especially those who are not selected to work hard so that the people in need can be helped. Scotterfield  Lyngdoh, who is also a teacher in the Mawten Secondary School, 4 Kms from Mawkyrwat was selected as the Best Para Legal Volunteer 2016 from the District.
