Commission to regulate private varsities: Taloh

FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT

Itagar, April 17: Education Minister Tapang Taloh informed that a regulatory commission is being formed to guide and assist private universities in the state. He said this during a meeting here recently organised to discuss establishment and functioning of private universities in Aruchal Pradesh. Other than reviewing the current status of such universities, the meeting discussed the amendments to be made to the Private Universities Act in order to plug the loopholes, official sources said.

The minister asked the university authorities to initiate the process of acquiring land for establishing permanent campuses, saying the universities “would in no way be allowed to function from rented rooms.”

“The state government has allowed private universities into the state with the hope that they will provide quality higher education. The people of the state have high expectations from the private universities. The universities should therefore prove themselves in the field of education,” Taloh added.
