Commissioner reviews progress of NRC update work, meets prominent citizens

DHUBRI, Jan 10: Barak Valley Commissioner, Dr. Anwaruddin Choudhury who was one of the officers entrusted for reviewing the works and progress of the NRC update, visited Dhubri on Tuesday and held meeting with high officials here. Dr Choudhury also held a meeting with leading citizens of the district at his official conference hall and interacted with them to understand the ground view prevailing as regard to publication the first draft of NRC.
In the official meet, Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Ant Lal Gyani, Dhubri District NRC Project Officer, Santanu Chakraborty and a host of officials officiating the works of NRC presented details of NRC works already done and draft of it published on December 31. They also outlined the ongoing second round of verification works in the districts by the verification teams, which began on January 5 and reported the progress of works.
Dr Choudhury reportedly gave a patient hearing to the problems being faced by the officials engaged in the updating NRC. Officials also sought his guidance and guidelines on various points and stages of NRC update to carry forward the works smoothly. Dr Choudhury also chaired a meeting held with the leading citizens, and prominent among them were senior advocate Abdul Karim, advocate Nurul Islam Choudhry, former chairman of Dhubri Municipal Board, Kalyan Purkayastha, advocate AK Fazlul Haque, former legislator Dhruba Kumar Sen and zibul Umar  in the same venue.
In the meeting, leading citizens expressed their grievances for not publishing the mes of many genuine citizens and pointed out many lacue that had cropped up in the first draft of NRC, and urged him to look into these thoroughly for inclusion of mes of all the Indian citizens. When asked about the meeting with the Barak Valley Commissioner, former chairman of Dhubri Municipal Board, Kalyan Purkayastha informed The Sentinel that they had highlighted many points relating to non-publishing of mes of many genuine citizens.
