'Committed to doubling farmers' income by 2022'

Guwahati, April 27: Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi who is on a two-day visit to Tinsukia, on Friday held a meeting with the heads of the departments at the conference hall of DC office, Tinsukia and asked Agriculture, Irrigation and other line departments to work in absolute coordination to double farmers’ income by 2022, a press release stated.

Drawing the attention of the senior officers of the district, Governor Prof Mukhi said that farmers are the prime beneficiaries to the government’s efforts in bolstering growth of the State and a well coordinated effort in the State to double the farmers’ income would act as a catalyst to the growth of the nation. He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi also set a vision to double farmers’ income by 2022 and Assam cannot be left behind to complement the farmers’ driven growth of the nation. He also asked Deputy Commissioner of the district Oinam Charan Kumar Singh to take special steps to coordinate the activities of the departments to reach the target by 2022.

Governor Prof Mukhi also reviewed the progress of centrally sponsored and State governments schemes in Tinsukia district. He asked the PWD Department to take immediate initiatives for repair and construction of roads in the district. He took the status of Ujjwala Scheme and asked the DC to completely replace the unclean cooking fuels with the clean and more efficient Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in the district for the BPL families.

Governor Prof. Mukhi also visited Tinsukia Civil Hospital and saw the facilities put in place for the patients. He also interacted with them. He also paid a visit to Laipuli High School, Tinsukia Commerce College, interacted with the students and took stock of the cleanliness and other facilities being provided to the students. The Governor also took stock of the student-teacher ratio and asked the teachers to share with him if they face any problem.
