Committee formed to settle problem of ST students' scholarship

Lakhimpur, September 28 : The Scheduled Tribe (ST)  students  of all colleges and higher secondary schools of  Lakhimpur district organized a meeting to discuss about the alleged corruption and irresponsibilty in the government departments regarding the deprivation of scholarship to the ST students since the year 2000.  In the meeting held at Lakhimpur Commerce College the issue related to the deprivation of scholarship was brought to everybody’s attention and several proposals regarding immediate release of the ST scholarship funds were discussed. Moreover, a committee of 51 active members - Tribal Student’ Scholarship Demand Committee - was formed during the meeting. The newly-formed students’ association declared that they would carry out a strong protest before Durga Puja and submit a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner regarding their demands. In the meeting Nirmal Payeng was choosen as the president of the committee whereas Abhijit Deuri, Madhab Mili and Monuranjan Sonowal were chosen as working president and joint secretaries respectively.
