STAFF CORRESPONDENT

SHILLONG, Oct 27: The select committee chaired by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, along with leader of the opposition (LO) Donkupar Roy and Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh, could not filize the last man to be inducted into the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC). In today's meeting, they cross checked the profiles of two possible candidates, but they prefer to look for others to fill the post as proposed by the tiol Human Rights Commission (NHRC). Speaking to newsmen, the Chief Minister said, "We have two mes and we are looking at others before coming out with a right decision". Already there have been two chosen members in a retired Judge Afteb Hussain Hazrika and (retd)DGP Peter H Pyngrope, besides the Secretary Aldous Mawlong. Notably, the Meghalaya State Human Rights office is functioning from Guwahati. On being asked, the Chief Minister said the department concerned has been asked to scout for places to establish the infrastructure and logistic for the commission to function. It is an irony that such a directive by the NHRC continues to function outside the State with no temporary spaces to get an ordiry office.
