Community awareness programme on disaster preparedness held

SHILLONG, Sept 13: The tiol Disaster Response Force (NDRF)’s 1st Battalion, Guwahati in collaboration with the District Disaster Magement Authority ,(DDMA), Nongstoin conducted  a series of Familiarization Exercise  Cum Community Awareness programme from the  September 8 to September 12 on disaster preparedness.

The exercise was conducted on  the disaster preparedness for school students, teachers, Village Disaster Magement Committees (VDMC), tiol Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, Scouts & Guides, tiol Cadet Corps (NCC), women groups, NGOs, village volunteers, Village Defence Party (VDPs), district and block officials of West Khasi Hills district.

The training programmes covered different aspects of disaster magement including emergency method of search and rescue operation, first aid, rescue from high rise building and mock drill demonstration by NDRF.

The disaster magement plans of the district with details of vulnerability were shared with the NDRF and other stakeholders for knowledge sharing, improvement and modification.

Various programmes were held at different places including JNV Nongstoin, Nongstoin College, St.Joseph School, Nongkasen , Lyngngam Higher Secodary School, Mawthengkut, Tirot Sing College, Pyndengumiong village, Mairang of the district. M.S. Patwal, NDRF  and Jothan  Mawthoh , ADPO, DM Nongstoin attended as resource person.
