Complaint against school headmaster

From our Correspondent

TINSUKIA, April 6: At a time when the government is contemplating to upgrade quality of education through launching of Gutsav, behaviour of headmaster of a provincialized school in Makum in Tinsukia district has raised the eyebrows of many even as the complaint had to knock the doors of media persons after the complaint fell into deaf ears in the education department.

According to complaint lodged before the Inspector of School, Tinsukia and copies of which sent to Deputy Commissioner, Tinsukia and Director SEBA, Assam, Bijan Kumar Bhattacharjee, president of SMDC Makum Railway High School, Makum in Tinsukia district stated that the headmaster (i/c) of the school, Subrata Patrabis allegedly misbehaved with the board members in the SMDC meeting held on February 18 and used derogatory words against the members. The complaint further stated that the headmaster, being a science teacher, was very irregular in engaging science classes, and even resorted to threatening and corporal punishment, which seriously marred the conducive atmosphere in the school, besides leveling four other allegations against him.

Though written complaint was submitted to Inspector of Schools and received on February 23, the IS allegedly did not initiate any action against the erring school authority. When the SMDC president approached Deputy Commissioner, the office too took the matter in a lackadaisical manner.

The headmaster of the school, Patrabis when contacted said he objected to holding SMDC meeting when the president brought non-members into the meeting. In regard to other allegations, he suggested for impartial inquiry by the Deputy Commissioner. While the Inspector of School Abdul Jelil said he would inquire into the matter after Bihu.
