Complaint lodged against tea factory for construction work in eco-sensitive zone

GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), May 30: Jourlists has filed a complaint against a tea factory on Tuesday to the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat for alleged construction activities in eco-sensitive zone in mbor Reserve Forest. Talking to media persons, senior jourlists Bikash Sarma and Diganta Bhuyan said the mbor Reserve Forest was rich in biodiversity across India. They said, “At a time when the Ministry of Environment and Forest as well as Supreme Court of India has declared to stop construction activities under eco-Sensitive area around tiol parks, wildlife sanctuaries and reserve forests,  a section of dishonest persons and mafias are allegedly involved in construction activities under prohibited areas in Golaghat district.”

In Golaghat district within the 10 km radius of mbor Reserve Forest, which is considered as eco-sensitive zone, at Murphulani Tiniali  a tea factory med Luhit Tea Factory Pvt. Ltd  is carrying on construction activities. Murphulani Tiniali is known as an elephant corridor. These alleged construction activities under prohibited area are disturbing the movement and behaviour of the wild animals and the construction activities  of Luhit Tea Factory Pvt. Limited were causing dangerous effects to  wild animals, they added.

They also alleged that as part of the construction activities by the Luhit Tea Factory Pvt, heavy machineries, high voltage lights and vehicles were being used day and night which was causing disturbance to movement and behavior of the elephants in the area.

In this regard the jourlists submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister, State Forest Minister and Principal Secretary of the Department of Forest through the Deputy Commissioner, Golaghat. They sought action immediately for greater interest of wild animals of mbor Reserve Forest.
