Complete draft NRC to be in two versions: NRC Authorities

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, July 19: With just 10 days left, the NRC (National Register of Citizens) authority is all set to publish the complete draft NRC on July 30 in two versions, namely online and print. The print version to be available in the NRC Sewa Kendras would incorporate not only the photographs of citizens but also other details like name, parents’ names, permanent and present addresses, date of birth (DoB), as well as the name of the respective ‘Birth State’. On the other hand, the online version would show only the names of the citizens.

It may be noted that the first part draft NRC published on the expiry of December 31, 2017 midnight did not have the photographs or the details. It included the names of 1.90 crore citizens out of the 3.29 crore applicants.

Talking to The Sentinel, NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela said, “Work is on as per plan and the complete draft NRC will be brought out on the slated date. One can log on to the official website (www.nrcassam.nic.in) and check the availability of one’s names by providing the ARN (Applicant Receipt Number). However, the procedure to be followed in SMS-based checking would be broadcast through advertisements.”

On the possibilities for citizens whose names might be omitted or in cases where there might be need for corrections, Hajela pointed out: “There would be scope for claims and objections. There would be an advertisement campaign to enlighten the masses on the processes.”
