Complex surgeries to be performed during live operating workshop in JMCH

JORHAT, October 28: The Association of Surgeons of Assam in collaboration with the Department of Surgery, Jorhat Medical College is organizing the 26th annual conference of the Association of Surgeons of Assam at JMCH (Jorhat Medical College and Hospital) from October 30 to November 1 which will be attended by more than 220 surgeons of the entire north-eastern region. A live workshop will be organized by the Association in which delicate and complex surgeries will be performed by intertiolly renowned surgeons as well as the local experts to impart the latest knowledge on surgical techniques and procedures. This was stated in a press meet organized by the Association at JMCH Surgical Department on Wednesday.

Briefing on the topic, Dr Mab Jyoti Gohain, organizing secretary and Professor Atul Chandra Boro, organizing chairman and Head of the Department of Surgery, JMCH said, “The basic aim of the conference-cum-workshop is transfer of knowledge through intense learning sessions in the form of guest lectures by stalwarts in their fields as well as continuing medical education programme by many experts. Already a total of 20 patients are being made ready for the live operating workshop on October 30.”

The organizing members further stated, “Leading and intertiolly acclaimed surgeons like Dr. GV Rao of the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology Hyderabad, Dr Om Tantia of ILS (Institute of Laparoscopic Surgery), Kolkata and Dr Ravi Kanon, cancer surgeon and Director of Cachar Cancer Hospital, will take part in the workshop. The president of the Association of Surgeons of India, Professor Santhosh John Abraham will persolly attend the conference to encourage the local team of surgeons. The organizing committee believes that this academic meeting and the live surgical workshop will raise the standard of healthcare in Jorhat and will put an imprint in the young minds of the surgery students which will ultimately benefit the people of Jorhat as well as the State of Assam.”

The Association of Surgeons on account of the celebration of the month of October as breast cancer awareness month will start with an awareness run for breast cancer on October 30 prior to the commencing of the workshop.
