Compromise should not be made on quality: Dutta

GUWAHATI, Aug 10: Assam Football Association today welcomed Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal’s initiative to expedite the renovation works of the Indira Gandhi Athletic stadium for next year’s U-17 World Cup. However Association felt that government should take strong step so that no compromise is made on quality of work.

Talking to The Sentinel Ankur Dutta, the secretary of the Assam Football Association said, “During a meeting with the key officials of the organizing committee of the U-17 world cup, Sonowal yesterday instructed top officials of the state to expedite the work so that Guwahati is ready before the championship. We welcome chief Minister’s stand. At the same time we also request him to take steps so that there is no compromise on the quality of work as the stadium will organize many intertiol events after the World Cup also.”

It may be mentioned here that FIFA delegates will visit Guwahati in October to make fil assessment on the preparation. Javier Seppi, the tourment director of U-17 world cup, visited yesterday in the city to check the progress of the work. During this visit, he also meet Chief Minister and discussed many event related matters. Dutta added: We need two more dressing rooms along with chairs in the gallery for the tourment. The works should be put on fast track as very limited time is left before FIFA team arrive in the city.
