Concept paper to develop tourism in Dhubri district submitted

DHUBRI, July 11: A concept paper was submitted to the chairman of the Assam Tourism Development Corporation Ltd, Jayanta Malla Barua while he was on a two-day visit to Dhubri district to take stock of the tourism infrastructure and assents of the corporation recently.

A delegation of Dr. Panlal Oswal Memorial Committee led by its president Prof (Rtd), Girindra th Goswami, met Barua and handed over a file containing the publication of books, folders,  leaflets and detailed reports of the works done by the committee since after its inception in 2000 for promotion and development of tourism in Dhubri district.  

Beside this, a member of the committee separately submitted a concept paper for  promotion of tourism in Dhubri town and district as well with restoration and renovation of historical and heritage sites.

Members urged upon Barua to preserve and protect the historical and heritage sites, which otherwise would be ruined in the passage of time if steps were not taken immediately. The members opined that history and heritage walk together in the serene tural beauty of Dhubri town. A leisurely walk along the rain-soaked banks of the Brahmaputra and bounty of tural beauty is always an enchanting tour of the heritage sites, historical buildings and the religious sites, they said.

Members informed that apart from this, it was a paradise for bird watchers as there were around 27 birds, particularly water birds’ species and six species of bats found in 143 giant trees, within a 1km radius along the river bank.

They also informed Barua that there were 59 heritage, historical and religious sites dotted right from  Queen Victoria Park at Tetultola to Swahid Bedi near the PWD office on Guru Tegh Bahadur Road of the town.

An exclusive tourist circuit could be made in Dhubri district from Chapor to Chagolia inter-State check gate comprising the sites of Dhubri and Gauripur town with major sites of Dhubri district, including Florican Garden, Mahamaya Dham, Mahamaya Sn Ghat, Asharikandi terracotta cluster of village, heritage buildings of Gauripur Raj family and Jinkata Xatra.

The committee members urged the ATDC chairman to take steps to make it happen. Senior members of Dr. Panlal Oswal Memorial Committee, including JM Sura, Dr. Saradindu Banerjee and Dhruba Mahato were also present with the delegation.

A delegation from BJP Dhubri district unit led by its president Dipak Kumar Saha and vice-president Dr. Debamoy Sanyal also met Barua and placed the demand for promotion of tourism in Dhubri district.

BJP Dhubri district unit president, Dipak Kumar Saha, while talking to The Sentinel, informed that in order to preserve the culture of this area, the State Government had already initiated steps to construct the Sarat Chandra Singha cultural centre at Chapor, Pratima Barua Pandey Goalparya  Cultural Centre at Gauripur and Chilarai Kalakhetra at Golokganj.

“We also visited the Alokjhari Ma Mahamaya Dham area a few months ago, which is located 40 km from here, and a Detail Project Report (DPR) of Rs. 50 crore is being prepared by a high-tech private consultancy company at the instance of Golokganj legislator Ashwani Roy Sarkar for all-round development of the area with a view to make this site a hotspot for tourism and to provide better amenities to the pilgrims who visit the temple round the year,” Saha informed.
