Concern ove milk adulteration by milkmen in Dibrugarh

From a Correspondent

Dibrugarh, April 9: Although cases of milk adulteration by local milkmen, especially during the time of Rongali Bihu, have made news, no stringent measures have been taken by the administration to control the same. As the district mainly procures milk from Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts, through the channel of Bogibeel Ghat, Maijan Ghat and some other parts of the town, few milkmen here carry out the process of milk adulteration.

These milkmen for long are mixing low grade milk powder with cow or buffalo milk, and then later sell them at high prices, thereby increasing the rate of milk in the district.  As the production rate of milk is low, the milkmen are allegedly mixing hazardous powder for their self-profitable interests.

Milk adulteration is also being carried out at Chandmarighat, to which the district administration needs to keep strict vigilance as the lives of the common people are lying at stake.

The mes of such milkmen have come to the forefront and necessary steps by the department and authorities concerned have become essential to stop the hazards of milk adulteration from impairing the lives of one and all.

Meanwhile, some of the hotels who have been buying milk from the alleged milkmen, have discontinued their business with them in the wake of the rising milk adulteration row.
