Concern over alleged government apathy to Bodoland University

KOKRAJHAR, July 13: “Crisis of funds has been countence in Bodoland University (BU). The State Government has not allotted funds for the university and it is being run by the BTC administration,” Vice-Chancellor of Bodoland University, Prof. Hemanta Baruah said on the occasion of the 20th foundation day of BU on Tuesday.

Talking to media persons, Baruah said that the funds which should be provided by the State Government for the library and laboratories had not been allotted still date. He hoped that the new government would solve the problems being faced by BU. He said that the salary of February was cut and since April the faculty and staff had not received their salaries.

“The government has not taken any initiative for appointment in the vacant posts of the departments and most of the departments lack adequate staff,” he said. He also said that the BU administration had been demanding solution of these problems since long but the government had been maintaining an ‘indifferent’ attitude.

Kampa Borgoyary, deputy chief of BTC, who is also the in-charge of education and tourism department, attended the function as chief guest. He said the council had released Rs 15 crore from BTC education department to build both boys’ and girls’ hostels in Bodoland University. He also said the council had been providing help to the BU for its development. He further said that MP Biswajit Daimary also sanctioned Rs. 50 lakh from the MP fund to Bodoland University for infrastructure development.  

Sekhar Brahma, Registrar of Bodoland University, said Bodoland University had completed 20 years after the campus was opened in Kokrajhar but the university had not become a full-fledged university till date due to negligence on the part of the State Government.

Rabiram rzary and Kamalsing rzary, both MLAs, also spoke on the occasion and encouraged the students and faculty of Bodoland University to face the challenges ahead.
