Tezpur, May 3: People here, particularly the office bearers of Gahan Uddyan on the bank of Marabharali River near Parwa Chariali (Gutlung), have expressed total dissatisfaction over the alleged illegal selling of government land near the Uddyan by an unscrupulous land mafia of the area.

Founder member of Gahan Uddyan committee and a noted social worker of Tezpur town, Aswani Boro alleged that some land mafia, including Samsul Haque, had been selling government land in the Gutlung area to some suspected illegal Bangladeshis using fake stamp papers.

Some influential forces have been active in and around Tezpur to settle some suspected people by grabbing government land in nexus with some unscrupulous officials of the circle office of Tezpur over the last few years, posing serious threat to the very existence of the local people.

Meanwhile, reiterating the problem, Aswaini Bora said that few years back this evil force even tried to capture the land of the historic Gahan Uddyan but the attempt was foiled due to the timely initiatives of the socially-aware local people.

“The land of the area is in a silted position of River Jiabharali, which due to the changing course of the river, later came to be known as Morabharali River. The beauty and serenity of the area has been affected due to the alleged activities of the illegal infiltrators,” he said. He gave a clarion call to all the local people to stand united against such evil forces.
