Concern over child labour in Margherita

MARGHERITA, July 19: Madhab Das, Circle Secretary of Assam Tea Labour Union Margherita, expressed concern over the growing child labour in bought leaf factories and work places of Margherita region. Madhab Das said that under Labour Law Act, no one below 18 years old is allowed to work in factories and other places. But in Margherita many child labourers were found working in bought leaf factories and other work places. He alleged that in bought leaf factories, children were made to work for more than eight hours per day. He urged the Margherita administration and Labour Department to take stern action against those who violate the Labour Law Act.
