Concern over deplorable condition of NH-54 E

From a Correspondent

Haflong, Oct 29: The conscious people of Harangajao have expressed serious concern over the deplorable condition of NH-54 E in between Haflong- Harangajao and also between Harangajao- Silchar as they often remain landlocked due to disruption of road communication. Harangajao, only 30 km from Haflong, the district headquarter of Dima Hasao located on the way to Silchar, is forced to remain disconnected with Haflong as well as Silchar due to the dilapidated condition of NH-54 E even after a shower of rain, resulting in immense inconvenience to the people of Harangajao.

Due to such deplorable and uncertain road communication, the prices of essential commodities go beyond public reach. The students of Harangajao who pursue their higher studies in Silchar and other places are the worst sufferers.

Talking to this correspondent, Sontosh Hojai of Red Hill Society said the plight of Harangajao people has always been ignored by the authority concerned. Though the people of Harangajao have been suffering a lot from multifarious problems, the prime cause of concern has become the absence of proper road communication. Hojai said proper road communication was necessary for all-round development of a society. The people of Harangajao have been suffering for 15 years as the NHAI, which is constructing the NH-54 E through Harajao, is doing the work at a sil’s space. He also expressed concern over the lack of avenues for the educated unemployed youth, thereby discouraging the youths.

Ajanta Parbosa, another citizen of Harangajao, questioned why the people of Harangajao were left to suffer in the me NH-54 E construction. Harangajao, with a population of 35,000, has been made to suffer. Parbosa alleged the people of Harangajao had approached the authorities concerned but their pleas have been ignored. The people of Harangajao have again appealed the authority concerned and also the administration to solve their problems.
