Concern over deplorable road condition

 By our Staff Reporter

Lakhimpur, July 9: The worsening condition of the roads and highways in Lakhimpur and nearby areas like Dhakwakha and Dhemaji has become a serious problem for the locals. In spite of endless request and complaints by many local organizations and public, it seems that the authorities concerned have turned a deaf ear to these problems.

The roads have no footpaths and proper draige which leads to flood in these roads. Although minor repairs were done before the elections, the roads are completely broken full of potholes and boulders.

The Old College road, Panindra road, DK road, Kamalabai road, kari- Lilabari road which is known as VIP Road and Daily Bazar road are not at all in a condition to travel. Local people are in a constant threat to life for any moment accidents occur due to the poor condition of roads. The VIP road has many schools and offices, yet the roads have not received any repairs.

The highway has no footpaths which has created fear among the pedestrians. The super buses ply at high speed which leads to many accidents.

“We find it very difficult to run our tempos on these roads. Our passengers ask us to drive carefully but are we to be blamed? If our government has failed to solve such problems it is of no use to form a different government as all are same,” said Ajit Bora, a tempo driver.
