Concern over dumping of garbage on highway

A Reporter

SHILLONG, July 10: Headman of Iew Shillong Lailyngkot, Rynkatlang Lyndem has expressed deep concern over the reckless dumping of garbage and littering all along the Pynursla - Laitlyngkot tiol Highway.

"Even though the  Dorbar of Iew Shillong Lailyngkot has issued strict warnings many times not to litter the stretch of the road and also conducted patrolling of the area , reckless dumping of garbage is taking place everyday which has become an eye sore for the people of the area," Lyndem told reporters here. Stating that most of the littering is caused by local people coming from other places of the State for recreation etc, he, however, said that even though we welcome all the people, both local and tourists, they should not throw bottles or litter all over the places. He further said that the Dorbar  had earlier put up signboards and banners prohibiting littering along the stretch of this road but due to a recent government order, all the sign boards had to be removed from the stretch of the PWD road. Lyndem further said that these kind of activities will not be tolerated and anyone found littering along the road side, if caught, will be asked to clean the garbage thrown and also will be dealt with strictly. He also said that they don't allow littering in anyway and the village has dustbin and pit holes for dumping the garbage.
