Concern over illegal rock quarrying

From a Correspondent

mrup, June 14: The AJYCP mrup regiol committee recently disclosed in a press release that it had found illegal digging of stones in mrup. In the press release they alleged that Jaduth Gogoi (Prafulla Gogoi), an employee of a local industry here, got the license of stone digging from the government.

The AJYCP accused Gogoi of carrying the digging operation deep up to 10 to 12 metres more than the government prescribed 2.75 metres. This had posed a serious threat to the environment and the life of the habitants. More recently, a 38-year old man from Chaikya Gaon was drawn to death by falling into one of the deep holes formed by such illegal digging. Thus the AJYCP, mrup regiol committee warned the forest and the police department to enquire into the issue and to take urgent steps in this regard.
