Concern over liquor shops in Tinsukia

TINSUKIA, April 7: Expressing concern over issuance of large number of NoC’s permitting to open liquor shops outside 500 metres following Apex Court’s ban, gaon burhas and religious heads of Bajaltuli Juria mghar located at Borguri on the outskirts of Tinsukia have appealed to Deputy Commissioner Tinsukia to cancel all the NoCs purportedly issued by municipality and gaon panchayats besides demanding a through inquiry into the issuance of the NoCs.

The appeal signed by Bimal Neog and Durgath Dahutia, the gaon burhas and Hem Baruah and Biren Neogacharyya of Juria mghar respectively stated that Borguri and Bajaltuli gaon panchayats have housed several mghars, educatiol institutions besides offices of Deputy Commissioner, court, transport, PHE etc.

The locality already had two licenced bars and a wine shop besides several illegal wine shops and motels that mushroomed in the area over the years creating further nuisance in the area, the NoCs ought to have been issued after public hearing as per law, the appeal added.

Most of the NoCs were allegedly issued to those wine shop owners who had to shut down their establishments following liquor ban by the Supreme Court and served notice by the excise department to move elsewhere beyond 500 metres of NH, the appeal mentioned.
