Golaghat (Dhekial), Sept 11: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Golaghat district committee has expressed concern over slow progress of NRC update work. They submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat on Monday.

The president in-charge and secretary of the organization, Mridul Saikia and Abhibartan Goswami respectively appealed for completion of the NRC update work within a short time. The Supreme Court has asked the State Government to publish the draft copy of NRC on December 31.

The Golaghat AASU demanded that mes of illegal immigrants should not be included in NRC. They also said that a section of people was trying to put in mes of illegal immigrants in NRC by manipulating the documents. The appealed to the authority concerned to take proper initiative so that illegal Bangladeshis could not enter their mes in NRC. The future of the indigenous people of Assam will depend on proper evaluation of NRC update, the students’ body said.
