Concern over unclean drinking water

From A Reporter
SHILLONG, June 26: The Khun Hynniewtrep tiol Awakening Movement (KHM) has condemned the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for allegedly failing to provide safe drinking water.
The Movement further pointed out that there is doubt over the water supplied by the PHE through Mawphlang which was proven correct by tests conducted at pasture Institute.
KHM in a statement issued on Monday said that reports released by the state government through the State Development Reform Commission (SDRC) which had stated that the PHE water is safe clearly shows the casual attitude of the government and the lack of seriousness on the part of the PHE department over the health of the people in the state.
The Movement said that despite countless complaints sent to the Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, PHE Minister and others, no steps have been taken to provide pure drinking water. KHM further said that they will investigate the safety levels of the drinking water in different parts of the state and urged the government to do its part in ensuring that safe drinking water is being supplied to the masses. The Movement also urged the health department of Meghalaya to intervene in the matter.
