Concern over unutilized land

SHILLONG, June 22: KHADC CEM P N Syiem today informed the house that the Council will directs all the Himas to allow the indigenous people to utilize the idle lands of various Himas falling under the jurisdiction of the Council along the inter-state border. KHADC members had expressed concern that the unutilized lands of different Himas might get illegally encroached upon by Assam. “We will request different Himas located along the inter-state border like Jirang and Nongspung to allow the people residing there to use the unutilized lands,” Syiem said.Earlier, member Victor Rani while participating in the discussion said, “I earlier requested Himas of Jirang and Nongspung to allow local people to utilize these lands in order to thwart any encroachment from Assam.”
