Concerned civic bodies submit memorandum on Barak problems

Silchar, Jan 24: Problems related to road and communication of Barak Valley does not cease to exist. In this regard, a number of civic bodies of the valley, All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students’ Association (ACKHSA), Citizen Rights Preservation Committee Assam (CRPC), Youth Against Social Evils (YASE), garik Swartha Raksha Sangram Parishad, Intertiol Human Rights Association and Barak Valley Human Rights Protection Society, have submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor of Assam, Banwarilal Purohit. As per notification given by the Central government on September 7, 2016, for the religious minorities of Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan for staying in India, who came on or before December 31, 2014, should be implemented and not to harass giving notice by the police and tribuls in Assam.

It has been also stated that the NRC modality is that a government paper or document is required prior to March 24, 1971 and any other recent government document as supporting one to justify a citizen of India, but police and tribul do not consider the government modalities ask the people to produce continuous documents to stay in India. Owing to ignorance and fincial problems, some bofide Indian citizens are in detention camp. Government should give necessary legal assistance to them to come out from the jail. For instance, Bikram ndu Kalandi, a resident of Hailakandi, is a tea garden of Indian origin; an octogerian person is in detention camp, Silchar since February 2, 2016.

They further stated in the memorandum that various government leaflets and booklets are circulated in the Bengali speaking Barak Valley districts in a language which the common people of this valley do not understand. Therefore, the official language of this valley and the language of the majority people, which is Bengali, should be honoured and the booklet which is being circulated in the said districts should be withdrawn. For instance, the booklet on Pradhan Mantri Awaash Yoja is in Assamese. In addition to this, they have pointed out the problem of traffic in Silchar town as a very serious and alarming issue. So, construction of over-bridge has become necessary. They have requested the Governor to take necessary initiative in this regard.
