Conference on youth entrepreneurship held

Guwahati, Jan 6: Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust (BYST) in partnership with CII and Employment Generation Mission (EGM) organised a conference “Nurturing Youth Entrepreneurship & Distribution of Excellence Award” on Tuesday at NEDFI House Auditorium here, a press release said. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi handed over excellence award to star entrepreneurs mentored over the years by BYST, under best entrepreneur award, Business Idea Contest.

The Chief Minister iugurated the conference. Gogoi, in his iugural address, said, “There has been a mindset change towards starting your own business among Assamese youth. BYST-CII along with EGM is trying to mentor those minds into mature entrepreneurs.”

He said in the past three years, BYST has scaled unprecedented success – Bhaskar Tamuli is a great example of a poor rural youth who has grown into a crorepati, employing 115 people in his traditiol Bell Metal business.

“The Government will make all efforts to dissemite the success stories of hundreds of such young entrepreneurs to all the 32 districts of the state,” Gogoi added.  

Amlan Baruah, Project Director, EGM, addressing the gathering said, “Partnering with BYST has been an effective way for EGM to counsel, train and promote first generation entrepreneurs in eleven districts, within three years. This program has demonstrated how job seekers can be converted into job creators.”

Abhijit Barooah, Member Strategic Committee, BYST, Assam & Co-Chair, CII North East Council was also present in the Conference and said, “Mentors or business gurus are critical to the success of any young start-up.”

The conference also had a mime act by the reputed mime artiste Moinul Haque, who enthralled the audience with his humorous performance.

Swapnil Baruah Commissioner of Industries & Commerce handed over the awards to winners from five Districts for Business Idea Contest.
