'Confident of winning Nongkrem and Sohiong in by-polls'

SHILLONG, Feb 19: The United Democratic Party (UDP) East Khasi Hills District has asserted that they are confident of winning the two seats for the upcoming MDC by-election in Nongkrem and Sohiong constituency.

“We are fully confident to win the both the seats for the upcoming MDC by-elections and we have already had 6 people vying for a party ticket and this only shows that the party is strong, however we have not accepted anyone as of right now,” UPD East Khasi Hills District President President Titosstarwell Chyne told newsmen here on Friday.

He however said that so far at Nongkrem constituency no one has applied for a party ticket but they have entrusted the circle leadership to choose a candidate.

“The state government by implementing the Dual Post has created a lot of problems for the people of the state,” he said adding that till date the government has not been able to do anything against the CEM KHADC P. N Syiem who is still holding both the MLA and MDC post.

Stating that the government has intervened in the functiol of traditiol institutions in the state, he said, the government instead of strengthening the KHADC and other traditiol institutions the government is weakening them.
