Confusion over 'police officer's claim

JORHAT, May 30: An alleged imposter has of late become a source of anxiety for the Assam Police especially the Jorhat police after one Soriful Hussain who claims to be the PA of the Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Sahai, has not let a single person remain unknown about his identity in Jorhat especially among advocates, officials of the Jorhat district administration and jourlists.

What has now become a source of fun for the people after seeing the apathy of the district police force to even question the authenticity of the person after the alleged imposter took the me of the top cop of the state?  However, DGP Sahai while talking to The Sentinel said, “I have never heard this person’s me among those who have associated with me from office to home. My PA is one Mr. Sharma and not Soriful. I will have to find out but I suspect he could be an imposter.”

The funny incident came to the light when the alleged imposter was found irritating and dictating a jourlist to do news in his favour highlighting the ongoing corruption of land acquisition and monetary compensation for the ongoing four lanning project in Jorhat. The intensity of the irritation reached such an extreme point that the jourlist had to inform both the DGP as well as the Superintendent of Police, Amanjeet Kaur who promise immediate verification and necessary action.

Soriful first identified as a Sub Inspector and then a PA and now a constable of the 2nd APBN from Makum. Even if he is a police constable (looks and appearance speak of a different story), the big question emerging at this time is whether he is actually a PA to the DGP. If yes, whether he resides along with the DGP and if not, then what is keeping the police from taking action against him?

“I had served the ex DGP Khagen Sharma for twelve years and now with the present DGP Sahai Sir. I came with Sir to Dibrugarh and on our way back, I took permission to stop at Jorhat for some days. I stay in the DGP Bungalow and do all works allotted by Sir. The Jorhat SP also knows me and I have on earlier several occasions met the SP in connection with the cases I have filed against my brother,” Soriful told The Sentinel.

When contacted, SP Amanjeet Kaur said, “We are investigating into the matter but one thing I would like to mention is that many manipulators exist who associate them with important people and try to use references for getting their work done. In this case if he is found not to be genuine then we will definitely take action.”
