SILCHAR, Jan 21: In 2011, a survey was conducted to prepare a list of beneficiaries for dwelling house of Lakhipur constituency, under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yoja-Gramin (PMAY), Union Ministry of Rural Development. The list, prepared according to the survey and details collected by government employees, was found defective after scrutinizing. In this regard, representatives the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) under Lakhipur constituency have submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar through J R Lalsim, ADC Cachar and in-charge, sub-divisiol officer (Civil), Lakhipur, last Wednesday. They have requested for rectification of the list of beneficiaries for dwelling house under PMAY before its fil implementation.

They have stated that the prepared list is very defective as mes of persons belonging to the APL category and having government jobless have been included in it. In addition to this, categories of beneficiaries mentioned in the list are almost incorrect, as many mes of many persons belonging to General categories have been highlighted as SC or ST or Minority. Family details have also been found incorrect along with some overlapping mes in the list. In this connection, the PRI representatives submitted a corrected list passed through Gaon Sabha.

A few months back, as directed by their competent authorities, but without proper rectification the same list was sent with a direction to forward the me of beneficiaries serially from the list as per allotted numbers to the GP without any consideration of genuineness and deserving ones. The list has already been deprived the rights of the elected representatives of PRI. They have stated that if the defective list is not properly rectified, they will not be able to cooperate in the implementation of the scheme. MLA Rajdeep Goala along with more than 150 GP representatives was there at the time of submission of the memorandum to J R Lalsim.

The memorandum was read aloud by Surya Kanta Tiwari, GP president, Pabda. MLA Goala said that owing to the incorporation of wrong mes into the list, work under NREGS would also remain stopped for the time being. Moreover, due to the transfer of GP secretaries to other places, new secretaries have come to work. It will take time for them to adjust.
