Congress alleges foul play in panchayat polls

SILCHAR, March 23: Silchar District Congress Committee in a memorandum addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar has alleged that there has been large scale rigging by BJP supporters during the by-election of No.10 Dakhin Saidpur gaon panchayat under Soi LAC of Cachar for GP president today. It has also been alleged that there have been flagrant violations of electoral rules and procedures without any interference from the law enforcing machinery.

It has been further stated in the memorandum that there have been rampant violations of electoral norms in 1556 Dhanehari LP School, 422 Dhanehari LP School, Saifuddin Barbhuiya LP School and Roy Sahib bakumar LP School. The Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, S Viswathan, IAS, has been requested to initiate immediate action for remedial measures. The memorandum was signed by Karnendu Bhattacharjee, president, Silchar District Congress Committee. It is relevant to mention that the elections were held on Wednesday, results of which will be declared on Friday.
