SHILLONG, Feb 15: Barely an hour after the BJP leaders fired a salvo at the Congress in Shillong, leader of Indian tiol Congress (INC) And Sharma hit back by calling the BJP of being a nondescript opponent that is using its fringe parties like the NPP and the UDP. “The BJP is contesting only in the shadows. It is rather a match fixing instance with the NPP and the UDP to cheat the people,” stated Sharma, adding, “these parties (opponents have not learnt the art of double speak and they will be caught and punished for the match fixing.”

Virtually taking on the NPP of being a “bye product of the BJP”, Sharma said, “The NPP or UDP are saying that they have no truck with the BJP, but surreptitiously they are on the same plot.” Even as he charged the NPP of being a party that is being funded by the BJP, he claimed that “the BJP has no existence in the State even though it is making use of all its resources to make its presence felt.”

Cautioning the voters of its alleged “sinister plot”, the Congress leader said that the BJP is a “habitual offender” and “will go to any extent to grasp power”. Claiming that the Congress regime could have done better in terms of development in Meghalaya, Sharma said, “The Congress Government in the State never received the support from the Centre in the past four years.” While appealing for votes, Sharma said “the BJP will get a duck or one run because of the atmosphere of hate, distrust and polarization that they have created.” The senior leader of the Congress in the RS also questioned the BJP on its close alliance with Himanta Biswa Sharma when he was with the Congress. “Now, these double worded speakers are speaking fondly about him,” he said.
