Congress cause for all ills: BJP leaders

From Our Correspondent

Silchar, Nov 17: PWD Minister Parimal Suklabaidya and State BJP spokesperson Dr Rajdeep Roy have come down heavily on Silchar MP Sushmita Dev and Pradyut Bordoloi, former industry and commerce minister, who stated ‘mami Barak is full of sound and fury, signifying nothing’ at a press-meet held here on Thursday. Dev said that it is shameful that such a gala event is being organized despite the fact that the employees of Hindustan Cachar Mill (HPC) are starving owing to the non payment of their salaries for almost a year now. Talking to The Sentinel, Parimal Suklabaidya said, “They should introspect before jumping into a conclusion that BJP is sitting idle in this regard.”

“They should know who was behind the closure of HPC. A section of political leaders destroyed the mill for their own ulterior motive. Now they are pointing fingers at us? It is absolutely absurd. We can assure you that the bygone glory days of HPC will be back very soon. The roads, transport and communication system along with other infrastructures of Barak Valley have undergone sea change. I do not want to know what the remarks of the opposition party are. But there is an excitement in the minds of the people. People of Barak Valley are enthusiastic,” said Parimal Suklabiadya.

Congress should not try to upset the very rhythm of mami Barak. mami Barak is trending and has been engraved in the hearts of the people of Barak Valley. MP Sushmita Dev raised few issues which have to be answered. The pending salaries of the employees of Hindustan Paper Mill (HPC) have made life miserable for the families of the employees. But it is to be clarified that who was behind the present state of HPC. The precarious condition of HPC speaks volume about a certain section of politicians and leaders who joined hands and played dirty politics which led to the fil closure of the mill, pointed out Dr Rajdeep Roy state BJP spokesperson, at a press-meet held at his Bilpar residence, here on Friday.

Dr Roy further said that he is ready for an open debate on the issue. “BJP is concerned over the plight of these employees and their families. HPC will open; it is just a matter of time. I can say that within this month good news will be heard. However, there are some procedural bottlenecks. Even Congress is responsible for the non publication of NRC in the State of Assam. They have been postponing it since 1991,” said Dr Roy. “mami Barak is more than just a festival. It is also an attempt, a noble initiative taken by the Chief Minister of Assam to bridge the mental gap between the people of Brahmaputra and Barak Valley. Prime Minister of India too takes keen interest in the matters related to development of the Northeast region which is proved by his shift from ‘Look East Policy’ to ‘Act East Policy’. Barak Valley will be in an enviable position in near future. Barak Valley used to be considered as a backward state. The sudden leap has taken the State by the storm,” said Dr Roy.

Dr Roy further said that new avenues are being explored and mami Barak will be a corridor for the Southeast Asian tions. mami Brahmaputra was an eye opener for those who thought that none will invest here. Investment proposals are pouring in from various countries. It was BJP’s first attempt to take Assam to the world stage. Around millions and millions of people will come in direct touch with Silchar. It is not a festival of any political party. BJP definitely has taken the noble initiative to connect Barak Valley to the whole world.

Dr Roy said, “Since we worship our river, so we have mainly focussed on the river of Barak Valley in mami Barak. We will showcase all the aspects of the Valley. Of late, MP Sushmita Dev and her party members, Congress, have been saying that they will not participate in mami Barak. But a number of Congress leaders and members are whole heartedly working, suggesting, helping and assisting in this regard. I request the MP to rise above petty party politics and take active participation in mami Barak so that she does not repeat the historical blunder committed by her father, late Sontosh Mohan Dev, former Minister, when he went into record by stating ‘Mahasadak is just a hoax’.”
