Congress claims credit for completion of Silchar-Lumding BG project

SILCHAR, Nov 21: The Silchar-Lumding BG project could become a reality only due to the tireless efforts and initiatives of the Congress minister and leaders. More than 90% of the entire project was completed during the tenure of Congress led UPA Government. It was declared as a tiol project by Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister. Santosh Mohan Dev, former union minister, and other Congress leaders have always worked for the welfare of the people of Barak Valley. The BJP led NDA Government is shamelessly trying to take credit for the successful completion of the project. The Modi Government has not kept its words. In the past one year unemployment and inflation have steadily risen. These were among the allegations leveled against the BJP by Congress leaders in a press-meet held in the Cachar district Congress office here today.

 Sushmita Dev, MP, said that in the past one year, the BJP has tried to create commul tension all over the country particularly in Assam for its vested interests. She accused BJP of indulging in vote-bank politics. Dev said people of all communities have been peacefully residing in the state. Gautom Roy, state minister, said that the Silchar-Lumding BG route could be completed only due to the initiatives of leaders and members of the Congress party.

 Roy added that the BJP is not a secular organization. He said that Congress has always worked for the development and welfare of all sections of the society irrespective of caste, creed and religion. The BJP and its brand of politics has led to rising intolerance all over the country. The people of the state want peace and development. Roy further criticized BJP for trying to take all the credit for the welfare policies which were launched by the Congress led UPA Government.

 In the past 1 year the rendra Modi led NDA Government has remed the welfare policies and schemes only. The Congress leaders urged upon the people to unite against the commul and divisive forces. Among others who spoke on the occasion included Ajit Singh, minister, and Karnendu Bhattacharjee, District Congress president. Cachar district Congress leaders and workers celebrated the first run of the passenger train service by bursting crackers and distributing sweets.
