MARGHERITA, September 28: Under the initiative of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Margherita Block Congress Committee, a protest rally was taken out on Monday which started from North Margherita Public Rangamancha to Margherita Sub Divisiol Office (Civil) gate.

More than 500 Congress workers from Margherita Constituency were present at the protest rally and they shouted slogans against the Prime Minister rendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre. Bhuban Handique, president of Margherita Block Congress Committee said that the tiol Food Security Act, 2013 introduced by the Congress-led UPA government, through which it was decided to provide rice and wheat at subsidized rate of Rs 3 and Rs 2 per kg respectively, had not been implemented even after two years.

Handique said that the BJP government had failed to check the sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities. Common people were suffering because of high price rise of essential commodities and this indicated that the BJP government was only a ‘suit-boot ki sarkar’, he said.

A memorandum was submitted  to the Prime Minister through the SDO (C) Margherita with  demands like immediate steps for early implementation of the scheme of providing rice and wheat at subsidized rates to the people of Assam as per the provisions of tiol Food Security Act, 2013 and to take immediate effective measures to control the sky-rocketing prices of all essential commodities and to make available essential commodities to the public at fair price shops through the Public Distribution System (PDS).
