SHILLONG, Jan 17: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC)’s today’s announcement to gherao the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) office in Shillong from Wednesday was accompanied by a blistering attack on Prime Minister rendra Modi over the issue of demonetization.

After three hours of meeting with the Congress party workers in Shillong, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) co-coorditor of Meghalaya, Takam Sanjay and the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma spitted venom on the Prime Minister on demonetization.

They termed it as a catastrophic exercise based on rhetoric’s of an individual that has had the worst impact on the Northeastern states.

“The Northeastern states including Meghalaya are the worst affected state by the sudden announcement made by Modi on November 8. We have been butchered by the arrogant vision of rendra Modi,” said Takam Sanjay in a press conference here.

While announcing the proposed ghereoing of the RBI office as a toughest sign of opposition, Sanjay said, “The Prime Minister lack of vision to serve the Northeastern states, is visible because he is not aware that 70-80 % of the people don’t have a bank account”.

He further quipped, “Simply forget the concept of banks and ATMs, do they know that there are people of Aruchal Pradesh who have to walk for 8-10 days to reach a block or sub-divisiol headquarter”.  “This unsophisticated decision blended with arrogance is also blended with a policy of pitching tribal’s with non-tribal, and tribals with tribals. It is in a mission mode launched by Modi to destroy the ethnicity of the region,” Sanjay alleged even as he added that the Congress party is determined to oppose the BJP government’s misadventure.

Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said that Union government has carried out the demonetization without adequate preparation and due diligence.

“The exercise is to only facilitate few business houses who have prepared in advance because they knew what will happen,” Sangma said. The Chief Minister further said, “The fact that the way whole exercise was carried out itself reflects the complete bankruptcy of ideas in implementing a decision.”

Expressing concern over the economy of the tion, Sangma further stated that the entire exercise of the NDA government is to take advantage of the innocence and honesty of the citizens.

The Chief Minister said, “The exercise has reached to such an extent that the autonomous body like the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is now vulnerable to corruption.”  He went on attacking the Union government by saying that the whole objective of the November 8, 2016 decision is a misnomer that has failed the citizens of the country.
