Congress is just like the old Rs 500 note: Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma

NAGAON: “The Congress now is just as like the old Rs 500 notes. No shopkeeper gives any value to the old notes,” said State Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday in Nagaon while addressing a party election rally held at Deodhor in Nagaon Sadar constituency.

Sarma slammed the Congress for indulging in the politics of dhoti and lungi. But the BJP had been able to bring changes in the State. Referring to the changes brought about in the education system of the State by the BJP-led government, Sarma said that now students and their guardians do not have to worry about buying books and uniform.

He said further that during the days of the Congress, it was a dream for the son or daughter of a poor rickshaw driver to get selected for ACS but now this was possible under BJP rule. The minister addressed two other election rallies held in Koliabor and Kothiatoli Chariali in Nagaon district on the same day. Local MLA Rupak Sarma was also present in the rally held at Deodhor in Nagaon.
