Congress leader joins BJP in Karimganj

 Silchar,  March 23: After lots of speculations, the former chairperson of Karimganj municipal board and a Congress leader Dr Mas Das joined BJP at a function in a function held yesterday evening. Karimganj BJP president Biswarup Bhattacharjee welcomed Dr Das in the party with a flower bouquet and an uttariyo.

 Dr. Das said that though he was associated with the Congress, but his father was a member of Bharatiya Jata Party. “I am well aware of the objectives and ideology of BJP. I will do my duties with dedication and accountability in the party. I am ready to serve the party,” he added.  Former North Karimganj MLA and State BJP vice-president Mishon Ranjan Das said that the BJP needs the person like Dr Mas Das. He said that Dr Das will also be made a part of the BJP’s ‘mission-84’ target in Assam.  Among others present at the programme included Assam BJP general secretary Rajdip Roy, Barak Valley organising secretary Nitya Bushan Dey,  Karimganj BJP vice-president Krish Das.   BJP workers have started its preparatory work for the next year Assembly elections, a party insider said. Many Congress leaders have already joined BJP in the State and there are indications that some more leaders from various political parties will join the saffron brigade.   It can be said that Congress, AGP and AIUDF, the parties in the reckoning, have to take into account the growing strength and popularity of BJP among the voters. According to political alysts, if the trend, mood and swing of the Parliamentary elections are any indication, it will be not surprising if BJP emerges as a strong altertive and makes its ascent to power at Dispur in the Assembly elections of 2016.
