Congress legislator joins protest against government

SHILLONG, May 11: On Wednesday hundreds of villagers of Nongsder village and its adjoining areas in Ri-Bhoi district protested against the alleged decision of the government to hand over land to defense authorities. Congress legislator from Umroi constituency Ngaitlang Dhar whose party is in the government also joined the protest. At the protest rally, Dhar blamed, Ri-Bhoi district, Deputy Commissioner, Pooja Pandey. The Umroi legislator also informed during the rally that he had talked to Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma on the issue but nothing has happened so far. Dhar also urged the people of the area to oppose the handing over of the land to the defense authorities. The protestors have decided to meet the state Home Minister Roshan Warjri and also demanded the immediate transfer of the DC, Superintendent of Police of Ri-Bhoi district and also officer in charge of Umiam police station.
