Congress only worked for flood and erosion hit people, says Tarun Gogoi

From A CORRESPONDENT

JORHAT, June 16:  Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with Ra Goswami, the general secretary of Nikhil Bharat Congress Committee visited the erosion hit Neematighat, where 200m portion of the approach road to Neematighat for Majuli island district was washed off June 3  last which had created serious concerns to the commuters plying between Majuli and Jorhat in recent past as they have to take a kilometer of distance on foot to catch the ferry for several Majuli destitions, though anti-erosion work is on sil speed which had irked conscious citizens of the state.

The former CM said that only Congress was the party who really worked for the people and specially for flood and erosion and it was only during our tenure this approach road was constructed but after BJP coming into power they never tried to repair the embankment for which such a serious situation like this could had happened. The congress government at the centre listens about the woes of the flood victims who used to keep away from their permanent places to temporary shades and it was during the congress rule that planning commission too listened to us following which funds were released for flood relief. But for this present Sarbanda Sonowal led BJP government could do nothing as the Neemati situation had almost crossed over 15 days and so far the erosion work at Neematighat could not be tamed and no Central Minister nor an expert team tried to visit Neematighat which is not only a threat for Neematighat but is causing serious threat to the Jorhat city along with its adjacent areas which includes NH-37, parts of Dergaon via Bokakhat to Kaziranga.

When asked about the possibilities of the bridge between Jorhat and Majuli, Ra Goswami said, “It was election propaganda just to pull voters. I request the chief minister of Assam to expedite the work process to stop from further erosion so that the people residing in the low lying areas around Neematighat, Kokilamukh, Majorchapori, Dainigaon, Borkokila, Baho, Melengchiga etc. do not suffer during monsoon days which is yet to start.”
