Congress protests against price hike and power cuts

JORHAT, Aug 31: Jorhat Congress activists took to the streets of Jorhat town on Wednesday, led by Ra Goswami, the general secretary of Nikhil Bharat Congress Committee, Dip Gogoi, president of district Congress committee to protest against the alleged failure of the State Government in fulfilling its tall promises.

During the past one-and- half years, the people of Jorhat district had suffered due to deplorable condition of roads, the Congress activists alleged. They also slammed BJP MLA and Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Hitendra th Goswami.

Ra Goswami, the secretary of Nikhil Bharat Congress Committee ,said this was the first of such protest rallies kicked off from Jorhat which would be followed by  a protest rally in Titabor, the constituency of sitting Congress MLA Tarun Gogoi, then Mariani, the constituency of sitting Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi and will be followed by Teok, Amguri, Sivasagar, Sori, Chariadew and Mahmora. Members of the women’s wing will take active part in the rallies as they will be playing a very crucial role in the upcoming panchayat poll, he said.

Dip Gogoi, the president of Jorhat District Congress Committee, came down heavily on the Central Government for non-fulfilment of its tall promises as nearly two years had been passed and all roads which were constructed during the Congress rule were in a deplorable condition. He also criticized the government for frequent power cuts and price hike of essential commodities.

A team led by Dip Gogoi submitted a memorandum through  Deputy Commissioner Virendra Mittal at his office chamber to the Governor of Assam, Banwarilal Purohit.
