Congress seeks FIR against Modi for Varasi road show

New Delhi, March 4: Contending that Prime Minister rendra Modi's Saturday road show in Varasi in Uttar Pradesh was undertaken without requisite permission, the Congress approached the Election Commission seeking an FIR against him for violation of the model poll code.

In its complaint to Chief Election Commissioner sim Zaidi, the Congress said that Modi’s road show covered three assembly constituencies of Varasi North, Varasi South and Varasi Cantt and was undertaken without the permission of the competent authority.

The party also said Modi’s visit to the Kashi Vishwath temple and Kaal Bhairav temple during the road show was also undertaken without requisite permission of the Election Commission. “The entire video recording of the road show has been shown by various channels and the election authorities must also have recorded the same,” read the Congress’ complaint. “It is requested that action may be taken and FIR (First Information Report) registered against all the BJP (Bharatiya Jata Party) leaders including Modi who were part of the road show,” it added.

Modi’s road show in his Parliamentary constituency came on a day when polling in 49 constituencies for the sixth and penultimate phase of the Assembly elections took place. (IANS)
