Dibrugarh, April 10: In a bid to mark their protest against the alleged rise in the incidents of crime and injustice against the members of SC and ST, several members as well as office bearers of the Dibrugarh District Committee of Assam Pradesh Congress went on an eight-hour long hunger strike on Monday at Chowkidinghee. The hunger strike that was underway from 8 am witnessed the protesters expressing their displeasure over the supposed failure of the present NDA government in maintaining a state of peace and harmony in the country. They also accused the government of encouraging commulism, and as such, condemned the same. The group of agitators also demanded that the unfair stance adopted by the Centre against the SCs and STs, as well as the acts of suppression against such margilized communities be quickly done away with.

In the protest where the president of Dibrugarh District Congress Committee, Etuwa Munda and former State Cultural Affairs Minister Prati Phukan participated,  the present NDA government was also accused of deviating from one of the core beliefs of Mahatma Gandhi – ‘Non-Violence is the Highest Religion’.
